Ayurvedic Yoga and Social Justice

Healthy Individuals can only exist within healthy communities where the dignity and rights of every person are recognized and respected.  At AYTI, we believe that understanding and pursuing social justice is part of an innovative curriculum for training transformative health leaders.

Community Engaged Learning

Students will learn from local farmers and activists about food sustainability and environmental concerns. Each student will do research in their home community on how the health of the population is influenced by social conditions.  This exercise will empower students to better understand the social precursors of disease and how individual actions cam make a difference.

Research Literacy

Embedded in the AYTI curriculum is a research literacy component that will help students understand the evidence base for Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy.  They will learn the hallmarks of appropriate research methods and analysis and will be able to translate research findings in order to educate their clientele.

Integrated Mindfulness Modules

Practical and effective mindfulness modules are integrated into the AYTI curriculum as strategies for student self-care, as well as tools that graduates can use with their clientele to lower stress, and increase resilience and vitality.

Ayurvedic Yoga and Public Health

Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy can powerfully impact individual health bit it is equally effective for disease prevention and health promotion at the community level.  The principles and techniques of Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy translate well into group setting where self-awareness and attention to daily activities improves mental health, well-being and quality of life for families, organizations and social support groups.
